Singer, composer and arranger, Lucy Brand is praised for her groundbreaking and expansive use of vocals in the context of Brazilian contemporary jazz. Born and raised in New York, but educated largely in Brazil, she has been living and working in the São Paulo region for the past 13 years.
Lucy Brand has worked with distinguished Brazilian musicians including Fabio Torres, Diego Garbin, Paulo Almeida, Louise Woolley, Fi Marostica, Ana Malta, and Rodrigo Ursaia.
For the last 5 years, Lucy has been touring and recording with the group, Fabio Leal & Antropojazz, with Fabio Leal, Cuca Teixeira, Yaniel Matos, and Sidiel Vieira. Their new album will be released in January 2021.
In addition, she has recorded in other albums including Sentir o que não se Vê (Fabio Leal, indepent. 2018), Do Interiô (Gaston Reggio, Cordas Vivas. 2018) and Trupe das Cabeças Sonhadoras (Breno Cavalcanti, Cordas Vivas. 2020)
Currently (but on pause), she performs twice weekly at Baretto, a renowned musical venue in São Paulo, playing regularly Beto Salvador (piano), Wilson Gomes (bass - recorded for years with Elis Regina and Ivan Lins) and Mutinho (drums, composer and collaborator with Vinicius de Moraes). These musicians were among of the founders of Bossa Nova and MBP, and her work with them has been a fruitful collaboration.
As a bandleader and composer, she also performs regularly in a wide variety of settings with top musicians including Felipe Silveiras, Daniel Grajew, Ana Malta, Thiago Alves, and Jônatas Sansão.
Lucy Brand graduated from the Conservatório de Tatui in 2017.
